Submissions

On Paper considers prints, books, and zines from any photographer working with care on paper. I read everything that comes in. I do not reply to everything — if you hear from me, it's because the work is going in the letter. If you don't hear back, assume it's a pass, and please don't take it personally.

What to send

Whether you submit digitally or by mail, I need enough to evaluate the work and, if I write about it, enough to tell readers how to find it. Please include:

  • Artist name and a website or Instagram
  • Title of the work, project, book, or zine
  • Year it was made or published
  • Format: print, book, or zine
  • Edition details: signed, numbered, edition size, or open edition
  • Process and paper: print process (inkjet, silver gelatin, riso, offset, etc.) and the paper it's printed on
  • Dimensions
  • Price and where it can be purchased (your site, a gallery, a publisher, a distro)
  • A short statement — a paragraph is plenty. I'd rather hear how you think about the work than read a press release.

How to submit

By email: tim@onpaper.photo. Attach a high-resolution JPEG or PDF. For books and zines, a PDF of the full object — or a representative selection of spreads — is fine for a first look.

By mail: I'm happy to receive printed work at:

Tim Trautmann
PO Box 11212
Portland, OR 97211-0212

Materials are not returned unless arranged in advance. If you'd like something back, email me before you send it and we'll work it out.

What I'm not looking for

The "What I don't" list from the about page applies here too: no AI-generated imagery, no NFTs, no auction news, no lifestyle photography dressed up as art, no brand work dressed up as editorial. Saves us both time.
